Not a pound but a pinfold. The plate on the gate reads: "Stray cattle and sheep were rounded up by the Pinder and kept in this pinfold. The owner had to pay a fine to the parish before they were released. This pinfold has been rebuilt on its original foundations as a village Millennium project by Grindon Parish Council with financial assistance from the Rural Development Association."
