The church is located in Coles Lane. There was a major fire at this church on May 13, 1976, which caused massive damage. Local parishioners spent the next few years, planning and fundraising for the restoration of their church. Building work costing £140,000 started in August 1979 and was completed in May the following year. The old bell, which had hung on in the blazing tower, had been cracked by the heat so a spare bell from the parish church of St Mary's was transferred there – by helicopter. The restoration gave the church a modern interior, with a hall and meeting rooms created on the first floor. The congregation now faces east as is usual with churches, rather than south as before. Like most churches today, it is locked when not in use.
