Traditionally a “shambles” was a place where animals were slaughtered and sold. Whether Hillsborough’s was used for that purpose does not seem to be recorded. After falling into disrepair it was restored about 35 years ago. The part on the right was used as an open-air art gallery for a time after restoration.
