This Franklyn Davey & Company edifice was named after one of the smaller Bristol tobacco firms which had been acquired by the giant Imperial Tobacco in 1901. The building was completed in 1912 to the design of architect Sir Frank Wills, son of HO Wills, the Chairman of the famous firm of WD & HO Wills. Sir Frank was Lord Mayor of Bristol as well as being the architect of this and other brick buildings on Wills/Imperial sites in Bristol - at East Street and Raleigh Road, Bedminster. Interestingly, the world HQ of Imperial Tobacco is still a few streets away, in Bedminster - the suburb of Bristol which provided much of the housing for the Wills' workers.
