The origins of Trinity House go back to the 14th century when a fraternity of the shipowners and shipmasters of Leith established a charitable foundation to assist destitute seaman and their families. It began as an almshouse in the Kirkgate. The present building dates from 1816. http://www.trinityhouseleith.org.uk/
