Alresford High Street

This roads leads between New Alresford, here, and Old Alresford, a mile to the north, the original settlement. Henri de Blois, Brother in law of King Stephen and Bishop of Winchester, created the Novum Forum (new market) here, which was completed by his successor, Godfrey de Lucy in the late 12th century. Many buildings post date the various fires suffered in the town, the last significant of which being in 1736. Today the town attracts visitors to its bookshops, antique shops and tea shops, as well as the preserved steam railway.
