Tyne United Rowing Club based in Gateshead was only established in April 2007 but has already raised funds for the building of boat sheds, a club house, and two sets of access steps down to the river. An indoor water tank and a gym are also planned. The completed club house can just be seen overlooking the river beyond the aluminium sheds Image They received an award for Gateshead Sports Club of the Year in October 2010. The site on the south bank of the River Tyne is opposite Newburn Rowing Club and near the University of Newcastle's Rowing Club house east of Newburn Bridge. The facilities will be used by Tyne United, Durham University and the general public.
