Mill Farm, Ampleforth

There has been a mill on this site since the 14thC. A corn mill was shown here on a map of 1856, and was the 3 storey stone & brick barn to the left of the farmhouse. Simon Hutchinson was the miller here in 1840, but by the 1890 cenus it had changed to Dennis James, who was shown to be a farmer & corn miller. The mill is no longer shown on the 1913 map, so I presume it had gone out of use. Behind these buildings are the remains of two mill ponds.
