Running parallel with the A275 Green Lane is probably an old route across the former South Common running from Markstakes Lane to Balneath Gate and being a former parish boundary between Chailey and Barcombe. Much of it today is a restricted byway except this surfaced section in South Street providing access for a few small estates. The buildings on the left are Firle Cottage and Amber Cottage respectively with Toad Hall being partially obscured by foliage.
