This carving with the date of construction of 1876, is at the top of the building. The Latin motto is Lux est Salus, which probably means Light and Safety. It seems to be the family motto of the Brinton family and others such as Brunton, which is probably another spelling from the days before there was standardisation of spelling. Brintons were established in Kidderminster in 1783 and the family, in its sixth generation, is still involved with the business. Image
