Brine Well and pond

I didn't check if the water was salty - probably not, but it is likely that the pond was formed by subsidence following salt extraction. This area has many brine well heads, scattered through the fields, which provided raw material to the ICI chemical factory across the River Wyre. There is a current, very controversial, proposal to create caverns in the salt beds to store natural gas.
