Dyma fedd Rebecca Uphill a fu farw ar 3ydd Medi 1850 yn 24 oed. Wythnos wedi ei hangladd fe'i datgladdwyd ynghyd a chorff Mary Ann Severne o Ffarm Brixton a gladdwyd ym mynwent Eglwys Talacharn chwe wythnos ynghynt. Gweithiai Rebecca Uphill fel morwyn i Mrs Severne. Cafodd y ddwy ei gwenwyno gan arsenig a chyhuddwyd y gogyddes, Betsy Gibbs o'u lladd. Yn mis Mawrth 1851 ymddangosodd y gyhuddedig o flaen ei gwell yng Nghaerfyrddin. Ond er gwaethaf y dystiolaeth gref yn ei herbyn a mawr siom i lawer a oedd yn bresennol yn y llys cafwyd Betsy Gibbs yn ddieuog. Here is the gravestone of Rebecca Uphill who died on 3rd September 1850 aged 24. A week after being interred her body was exhumed along with that of Mary Ann Severne of Brixton Farm who had been buried six weeks previously at Laugharne churchyard. Rebecca was employed by Mrs Severne as a maid. Tests showed that both women had been poisoned by arsenic. Betsy Gibbs, the cook, was charged with being responsible for their deaths and in March 1851 the accused appeared at Carmarthen Assizes charged with murder of two hitherto healthy women. Indeed the evidence against Betsy Gibbs was quite overwhelming. However, to the disbelief of those who had crammed into the public gallery the jury returned a verdict of 'not guilty'.
