These narrow industrial side streets were built in the horse-and-cart age. They probably don't get photographed very often! Behind the fence on the left was Mellor Square, a courtyard with back-to-back houses on three sides. On the right is Wilkin Royd Mills, formerly a silk mill. Why does just one of the windows have a round head?
