The rarely-photographed west face of Beccles church tower is the only one of the four faces that does not have a clock face. This face looks over the River Waveney into Norfolk, and the story is that the Suffolk men 'would not give the time of day' to people from Norfolk. A better photograph of this face of the tower was used by OS on the cover of the 1:50000 Landranger sheet 156, but with the new edition, this has now been replaced, not surprisingly as Beccles Church falls outside the 'neat line' of this sheet!
