During the floods that hit Cockermouth in November 2009 Wordsworth House was flooded, note the end wall has been demolished as a result. The house which was the birth place of the poet, William Wordsworth, was built in 1745 for the then High Sheriff of Cumberland, Joshua Lucock. Pevsner describes the house as follows: 'quite a swagger house for such a town'. The house is now the property of the National Trust.
