Saltholme is a recently developed nature reserve to the north of the River Tees amid the industries of Teesside. The reserve visitor centre is isolated by water - lake and channels - and has to be reached by crossing this swing bridge which is swung away when the centre closes so that effectively, a moat defends the building from vandalism!
