This is a scheduled Ancient Monument, protected from the effects of blasting at the Glensanda super-quarry by monitoring and a condition which is part of the quarry's planning consent that "peak particle velocity does not exceed 6mm/sec as measured at Glensanda Castle". During the planning enquiry for the quarry extension, it was reported that the Environmental Monitoring System had recorded PPVs of only 1mm/sec, which was clearly judged to be no threat to the edifice.
