An interesting contrast with Ben Brooksbank's 1957 picture Image The inner ring road and more recently pedestrianisation has now removed through traffic from the lower part of New Street. Corporation Street remains busy and is the city terminus for many bus routes. Burton's has given way to the ubiquitous mobile phone outlet though the hotel remains. The former Barclays bank on the corner is now occupied by an HSBC bank in a 1960s building.
