I was trying, during the brief spaces between rain showers on a miserable day, to get a decent photograph of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin at Thorgumbald (see Image). I gave up on the church after spotting this, a garden gate at Poplar Cottage on the corner of Church Lane and Main Road. Previous occupants of the tiny cottage used to sell flowers and home-grown vegetables to the public until larger plant nurseries appeared in the area.
