View eastward, towards Keswick and Penrith; ex-London & North Western, Cockermouth, Keswick & Penrith line. This station was closed on 18/4/66 along with the line Keswick - Cockermouth - Workington; after much objection, Penrith - Keswick was closed eventually on 6/3/72. Then much of the route was converted to a road (A66)! The train, which is headed by LMS Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 No. 46449, is the Saturday 10.15 Manchester Victoria to Workington. (I have to admit, however, that I was undergoing a driving (motorcar) lesson on this occasion!)
