This unprepossessing looking footpath going off to the right ahead is actually where the spur from the former Biddulph Valley Railway, now the Biddulph Valley Way, started to climb an incline towards a wharf on the Macclesfield Canal just ahead. There is an old cottage just out of shot to the left which was probably the home of the points keeper.
