Looking north along the Street. Edwin Lutyens grew up in Thursley and designed this building before going on to grander things - much grander. If you compare this with Image not far away and of about the same date (1900), you can't help thinking he did a bit of a skimpy job for his home village - materials are pretty basic, and there's a lack of imaginative detail. If I hadn't had Pevsner in my pocket (Nairn & Pevsner, 'The Buildings of England: Surrey') I'd not have given it a second look. Where there is a similarity to Tigbourne Court is in the plan - the centre recessed, the wings reaching forward to the roadside.
