Grave of a well-known Scottish singer who travelled the Empire singing to the Scottish diaspora a generation before Harry Lauder took to the road. His daughter, Marjory Kennedy-Fraser, wrote his biography which was published in 1887. Her own interest in music, especially Gaelic folk songs, for which she created English versions, has left us such gems as 'Mairi's Wedding' and 'Ho Ro, My Nut-Brown Maiden'. These were an obligatory part of a Scottish primary school education when I was growing up (though I must confess I could never quite understand what Hebridean wedding celebrations and the like had to do with my own Lowland urban existence).
