The road out of Spinkhill crosses the old railway trackbed . On the left, over the bridge ,there was once a railway station at Spinkhill but this shut as long ago as 1939. The railway remained in use well after that to serve the local coal mines and shut here during 1967.The limit of the line then became Westhorpe mine which survived into the 1980s.
