Seen on the other side of the crossing, is the old Crawley signal box. The original Crawley Railway Station stood immediately to the left of this location (platforms are still visible). I believe that the new station was built some time in the mid 1980s; I recall a bit of a panic when returning to the station to catch a train, only to find that it had moved by a few hundred yards! Must have arrived, in Crawley, by car.
