Prince Street, Hull seen through the archway entrance on the west side of the marketplace. Sadly this is not a typical local scene. Apparently despite well observed blackouts, WW2 german bombers returning from missions further inland would wait until they saw the light glinting on the water at the point where the River Hull joins the Humber and dump any unused bombs on the city before heading out to sea. This together with targeted raids on the port and decades of neglect after the war means that unspoilt views such as this one are few and far between.
