Footpath to Gun Hill

The public footpath leads along the tidal creek and mudflats by Burnham Overy Staithe to Gun Hill and to Holkham from there. Burnham Overy parish includes the larger village of Burnham Overy Town and the smaller coastal village of Burnham Overy Staithe, both of which are situated along A149 road. Burnham Overy Staithe - it used to be a small seaport frequented by fishermen - is surrounded by salt marshes that are traversed by creeks and channels linked with the North Sea. The area is known for its fast incoming tides and it is fascinating to watch the water racing up and filling the channels within a very short time. The region is designated as a place of outstanding natural beauty.
