A view of the station entrance reached via a lengthy footpath from Rotherhithe New Road. The bridge carries the existing line from Brixton and Tulse Hill over the current entrance hall and ticket office. The substantial nature of the bridge gives a clue to past railway activity in the area. Behind the fence on the left of the photo are the remains of the track bed of the Bricklayers Arms branch which passed under the Brixton line at this point and lead to one of the largest engine shed and goods yard facilities in London, covering 26 acres of land. The line was constructed in 1833-34 and remained in use until 1981 when the goods yards finally closed.
