The well is constructed of sandstone and was given to the town in 1897. The inscription reads '1837 VR 1897. To commemorate 60 years of the reign of Queen Victoria. This artesian well and building were given to the inhabitants of Helperby by James Coates. 30th June 1897. God Save the Queen'.
