Bit of a grand title for so small a building! - but the name refers to the Great Northern Railway, which up until 1923 owned Stamford Water Street station (later known as Stamford East). The line closed in 1959, but - as happens in Stamford - both the station building and hotel survived, converted for residential use. This former pub stands on a corner at the eastern end of Water Street, which runs along the bank of the River Welland, and can be seen on the right of the picture,
