This property was built in 1840 for the then Lord Aberdeen, reputedly to house his mistress, but ostensibly as a summer seaside residence. It was designed by the architect John Smith. In its lifetime it has variously been, a Catholic holiday home, a hotel (known then as Earls Lodge Hotel) before it burned down and became derelict. It is now a private residence, partially restored.
