Edgerston was built as a chapel of ease in 1835 before becoming a quoad sacra parish in 1855. The church was filling a void to the south of Old Jedburgh Church in a parish once known as Altera Gedwearde - the other Jedburgh. The site of Old Jeddart Church, from medieval times is nearby.
