Although the A465 begins at Bromyard in Herefordshire, this section, heading west from Abergavenny, is usually considered to be the eastern end/start of the Heads of the Valleys Road, a major route across South Wales. Its western end/start is at junction 43 of the M4 motorway, Llandarcy in SW Wales.
