This is a Church of Ireland (Anglican) place of worship, and one of three churches in the Diocese of Down and Dromore's parish of Kilmegan (Dundrum) and Maghera. St Donard's, whose official status remains that of a Chapel-of-ease was built in 1885/7 as Downshire Memorial Church. It was dedicated to St Donard of Murlough in 1887. It used to have three pinnacles on the tower but two have had to be removed in recent years for safety reasons.
