Birch Grove was the home of Harold and Dorothy Macmillan. He was British Prime Minister from 1957 to 1963. It was here that in 1963, President Kennedy paid a flying private visit during a European tour. Harold Macmillan died at this home in 1986 at the grand age of 92.
