The tablestone in the foreground is for Robert Taylor and his father John Taylor who reputedly died at the age of 137 years. The grave is signposted in the main street in the village and although a directional sign at the cemetery gates has faded, the grave is at the east boundary wall and marked by a metal post. The inscription reads:- SACRED To the MEMORY of ROBERT TAYLOR who was during many years an Overseer to the SCOTCH MINING COMPANY at LEADHILLS and died May 6th 1791 in the 67th year of his age He is Buried by the side of his Father JOHN TAYLOR who died in this place at the Remarkable age of 137 years There must be some doubts as to whether John Taylor really lived to be 137 years old.
