This is just the lower flight of the 111 steps installed at the behest of Jacob Hamblyn, a rich Falmouth merchant in the 19th century. It enabled him to travel between his home and workshop quicker. Today, I recommend descending rather than ascending though it is very steep and the handrail is a vital aid.
