Needham Market church is unique in a number of ways, one being that it is not aligned east/west, being much nearer north/south. Some of the buttresses on the road side have canopied niches, and the spire complete with clock sits on top of the porch. There is no tower. The timbered clerestory above the nave has the appearance of motel windows. The access to the rood loft was from the outside, but this is now blocked. The nave is like a grand hall with a roof that spans 30 ft; it is also unique. The hammerbeams project far into the nave and support a post into which is set an arch-braced beam. It is a triumph of carpentry and should be admired. Angels, added in 1892, abound from the ends of beams. More are carved into the cornice, some playing horns, others reading, praying and holding depictive shields
