Former North Wiltshire Canal, looking southeast

For decades the route of the canal, between the edge of the town centre and the Ferndale Road area, has been a pedestrian footpath and cycleway. For a long time there was a metal barrier along much of it, dividing the two types of user. That seems to have disappeared. The barrier in the picture is a temporary one, in connection with some work being carried out. This section was therefore being shared by both pedestrians and cyclists.
