Handcroft Road forms the southern end of Bensham Lane (which continues on the far side of the junction in the distance): one of those old twisting former lanes which preserve their old alignments cutting across later more regular development. This means that it cuts across plots of land that were laid out along the later roads at awkward angles sometimes: see, for instance, the ends of the houses on the right, the backs of buildings whose frontages sit squarely on London Road.
