The sign depicts a Roman soldier tending fire in the Roman signal station which once stood on the cliffs at Corton. It was discovered 1814, in an area which has now been lost to the sea. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6759945 The sign was erected in 1977 and beneath are War Memorial plaques. https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2091680
