From the outside one can recognise the septaria by its brownish colour against the grey of the flint. Unfortunately, the south aisle wall is cement-rendered. Nevertheless, it is a pleasant church with a beautiful view of the Stour, with Harwich across the water. Inside the church are some very old monuments, one to a knight, probably Sir Bartholomew D’Avillers who died in 1287. None lie in their original position and the names have been lost during restoration and the restructuring of the church. While in the area, go and see the unique Jacobean gatehouse to the Hall just down the road. > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1850287
