This Bridle Path passes through. West Wood until recently the wood was owned by the Church Commissioners. It had been leased since the 1930’s by Castlepoint Council. Their lease was due to expire in September 2010. There was great fear that the Commissioners would sell the wood to a private owner for the comparatively cheap price of £250,000 see http://www.echo-news.co.uk/news/local_news/4490302.Residents_campaign_to_keep_West_Wood_for_public_use/ Castlepoint Council website http://www.castlepoint.gov.uk/main.cfm?type=3337 says that the wood is now owned by them. I suspect they paid something less than the asking price as they put a commercial forestry value of £120k on it.
