One Fredrich Herman, Duke of Schomberg, landed here in 1689 as head of King William’s army and the rest – as they say – is history. It has never been fully documented but it is believed that some of the Scottish soldiers in his army stayed after the battle eventually settling in various parts of what is now NI.
