A view of the slow lines and the goods yard throat. A class 85 electric locomotive approaches with a fast freight as a class 25 leaves the goods yard with a train of hoppers. On the modern railway in 2010 the use of brake vans has ceased but when this photo was taken in 1979 they were still common on local freight trains. Judging by the smoke, the guard has a nice fire going in stove on this chilly August day.
