Nice old pub at the north end of the twin villages of Berrick Prior and Berrick Salome. Both names were originally spelt "Berewic" - Old English for Barley Farm - but adopted the more phonetic version somewhere along the line. Berrick Prior belonged to the prior of Canterbury. Berrick Salome was linked with the village of Sulham, near Pangbourne, in Berkshire. The extension at the far end of the pub used to be the Post Office.
