The massive bulk of the side of the Odeon is visible in the background, as is its 'Art deco' frontage onto Jordan Well. In between it and the Lady Godiva pub on the corner of Much Park Street is an area cleared in the early 1970s for new building developments for the Lanchester Polytechnic campus. The building behind and to the right of the Lady Godiva pub was, in 1976, 'the Lanch' library. People are watching competitors in the IX World Veterans Championship marathon, a rare event in pre-sponsorship and mass-participation event days. The man in the foreground is wearing a T shirt celebrating the 21st birthday of the Hotel Leofric. The hotel made it to its 50th in 2005, but closed a couple of years later and was taken over by a hotel chain. The changes by 2010: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2062345
