Grange Park was, in medieval times, a part of the Russell's Hall estate, but by the early 19th century the coal mines had been established. Once the mines closed, the park area was used for spoil storage, which was then cleared up by the Dudley Council just before the turn of the century, and the area then became a recreation ground; a use that continues to this day.
