This view is looking North North West and shows the bridge carrying the Sheffield to Barnsley railway over Thorncliffe Road. A few metres to the right the rail line enters the Tankersley Tunnel. Originally this road was just an access road to Thorncliffe Colliery but due to lots of development in the area it now carries much more traffic than it was designed for ... hence the need to build a separate tunnel for the public to use.
