St Mary's church is situated right beside the rural lane leading through the small hamlet of Bagthorpe, flanked by terraced cottages on one side and by a farm and Bagthorpe Hall on the other. The church became redundant and later came under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. Extensively renovated in the 19th century only the early Norman font > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2032045 is the only original feature that has survived. During the first years of the church's redundance it was on exhibit in the Church Museum housed in St Peter Hungate church in Norwich. It was returned to the church in 1979 where it now rests on a new concrete base.
